Embodiment

Colonialism has pitted the mind against the body. Most of us have been conditioned and raised to believe that we are defined by our thoughts and we privilege our mental activity. The body is only experienced as something you manage to look a certain way. Embodiment is the process of reconnecting with your body and challenging the hierarchy between mind and body and spirit. It is a process of reconnecting to the vital messages and stories that we contain in our physical selves. It is an experience of valuing the physical self, not based on appearance but on a deep appreciation and respect for its intricacy and connection to the Earth.

For us, Yoga is a framework to understand and experience the interconnectedness of all things. The word yoga means unity. It helps you unite your physical, emotional, and spiritual self. It comprises of physical exercises, breath work, relaxation and meditation techniques and practices that support this.

Our Ethos

We believe yoga is for everybody. We’re here to support and empower your journey toward personal growth and wellbeing. Our programmes honour the principles of the ancient yoga tradition, while tackling modern challenges. No matter your age or fitness level, we offer yoga that will work for you.

Our signature classes deliver precise instruction to align your breath with fluid movement. We place an emphasis on thoughtful sequencing and offer variations so you can customise your practice. Since each class is carefully themed, you will experience a deeper connection to yourself and the present moment.

Types of classes

Group: We offer group classes in person with social distancing protocols at our studio in Durban. Booking is essential.

Privates: If you would like individual attention and a class tailored to your specific health needs, take a one – on – one session. We can guide in physical movement, breath work and meditation, online or in - person.

TOOLS FOR WORKPLACE WELLNESS

We recognise that personal and professional life are interconnected. Work stresses increase tension in the home and influence family relationships. A way that an organisation can support its employees to be well at work and at home is by offering embodiment sessions. Our sessions provide participants with the opportunity to connect with their bodies and take a break from the thinking mind which is often the source of stress.

Body Breaks

We support organisations that are incorporating care and wellbeing into their culture. We have two types of offerings:

  1. Body breaks on a continuous basis made available to teams/ organisations either online or in person.

  2. Body breaks for a gathering/workshop/event. We are adept at tailoring our movement sessions to the content of your online and physical gathering. Our Body Breaks create an opportunity to practice and make tangible concepts which can sometimes feel abstract. It is one thing to talk about awareness and another to learn to cultivate it through paying attention to your breath.

We facilitate body breaks to counter the fatigue that comes with long days. Body breaks are an effective way to reset , refocus and get out of your head.

Sizwe’s work and inputs has been incredibly valuable to us over the last us over the last 2 years. We regularly work with diverse groups from all over the world focusing on organisational development and facilitation skills development (mostly done online due to the pandemic). We always look for an opportunity to invite Sizwe as a guest facilitator in our sessions to eloquently and powerfully illustrate the role of the body in who we are as people and how we show up in the world
